Tripura is at an advantageous position with respect to strategic, diplomatic and economic relations with Bangladesh, said Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Industry. She was inaugurating the first Border Haat set up along the Indo-Bangladesh international border at Srinagar, a borderi village in South Tripura.
The Minister said the Centre would look at expediting the construction of a bridge over the Feni river, adding that it would also move for development of Bangladesh through Tripura.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar requested the governments of India and Bangladesh to provide transit facility using Ashuganj and Chittagong sea ports in Bangladesh. He said if allowing transit facility is not possible, trans-shipment facility can be considered.
