The number of unbanked gram panchayats in West Bengal has come down to 721. Last year there were 889 gram panchayats that were beyond the banking network, State Finance Minister Amit Mitra said here on Saturday.
According to him, the Government has also received 88 new proposals so far.
Mitra was speaking to presspersons after the State Level Bankers’ Meet here in the city.
“We have urged the banks to give proposals for spreading their network to the unbanked areas,” he said.
A few days ago, the State Government said it was willing to facilitate banks by providing 300-400 sq feet of space at the various gram panchayat offices at a minimal rate of Re 1 per month.
Disbursals
According to Mitra, priority sector lending has grown by 83 per (in FY14), with the non-priority sector witnessing 310 per cent growth.
Similarly, disbursals to the MSMEs (micro small and medium enterprises) has witnessed a 135 per cent growth in 2013-14 to Rs 21,842 crore.

The current CD ratio or cash-deposit ratio in the State stands at 67 per cent, a two percentage point improvement over FY-13. The current year’s target is to take it to 70 per cent.
While 8,70,234 kissan credit cards (KCCs) were disbursed in 2013-14, the target for this fiscal has been set at 12 lakh, Mitra said.
