Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on Monday for an on-the-spot assessment of the district that witnessed deadly communal riots about a week ago.
The Prime Minister will take stock of the situation during the visit, PMO sources said here today.
He is expected to discuss the situation with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in the wake of riots that have claimed 47 lives so far and may visit hospitals where the injured are admitted.
Singh had condemned the violence and expressed his deep anguish over the loss of lives. He had talked to the Chief Minister and assured all required help from the Centre in dealing with the situation.
Singh also has sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 each for the seriously injured in the clashes from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
Against the backdrop of riots in Muzaffarnagar, the Centre has convened a meeting of the National Integration Council on September 23 that is expected to focus on communal harmony and related aspects
