With the monsoon becoming active again after a lull, the rain deficit in Kerala has narrowed down to five per cent less for the season.
The State received 1,620.1 mm of rainfall against a normal of 1,701.4 mm from June 1 to August 22, according to the meteorological centre here.
Heavy rains have lashed many parts of the State, particularly in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts since last night.
Low-lying areas in many of these districts have got flooded and water levels in a few rivers are rising. The district administration has asked people to be vigilant.
Meanwhile, the weather centre has forecast heavy rainfall (not exceeding 7 cm) to very heavy rainfall (exceeding 13 cm) in some places in the State and Lakshadweep till August 25.
