The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted conditional bail to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former IPS officer Rajat Majumdar, arrested for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore Saradha scam.

He was arrested in September 2014.

A Division Bench of Justice Subhrokamal Mukherjee and Justice Indrajit Chatterjee granted bail to him against a surety of ₹1 lakh. Majumdar has also been directed to surrender his passport and asked to stay within the limits of the Kolkata and Bidhannagar police station areas and report to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) once in a week.

Majumdar was the first TMC leader to be arrested by the CBI in the Saradha scam.

A former IPS officer, Majumdar had served as Director General of the West Bengal armed police.

He is the second TMC leader to be granted bail. Former Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose was granted bail earlier this month.
