A reality show is set to offer aspiring entrepreneurs a platformto pitch their ideas to a panel of investors on television, and persuade them to invest in their ventures.

Open to students, household and rural ventures, emerging start-ups, and small- and medium-sized enterprises, the televised series, to be called The Vault, aims to highlight what goes on behind closed doors during an entrepreneur-investor funding pitch.

The TV show aims to have five permanent investors with one guest investor in each episode, with the first season slated to be aired early next month.

So far, three entrepreneurs have come together as investors — The Beer Cafe’s founder and CEO Rahul Singh, digital performance marketing agency iProspect India’s CEO Vivek Bhargava, and People Group’s founder and CEO Anupam Mittal. Bhargava and Singh will be among the main investors on the show, while Mittal will be a guest investor.

Disruptive ideas

It will curate and present 50 of the most innovative, disruptive and even outlandish business ideas to emerge from Indian households. The investors will draw upon their own entrepreneurial experiences and strength to evaluate each pitch on aspects such as innovation, novelty, growth prospects and viability of the idea, before deciding on personal investments.

The programme will demystify the investment and mentoring process, and can nurture entrepreneurial successes from within India’s growing middle class, Singh said in a statement.

Bhargava, said: “The entrepreneurial ecosystem in India needs a concept like The Vault, where entrepreneurs not only get access to instant funding, but also gain mentorship from established Indian entrepreneurs with a proven track record of success.”

Mittal said The Vault aimed at nurturing entrepreneurship across the country, by educating viewers about how businesses are often created from scratch with nothing but a vision to change things. Jatin Goel, creator, The Vault, said the programme has been conceptualised as more than just another avenue of investment for aspiring entrepreneurs, and is meant to be a platform that will help develop a robust start-up ecosystem.
