States have broadly agreed to ensure compliance with the proposed Environmental Guidelines for construction projects in urban areas, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said on Tuesday.
This emerged at a consultative Workshop on ‘Climate Change Mitigation in Urban Sector’ organized by the Ministry to sensitise States and other stakeholders to the need for green construction.
A consensus has emerged on major provisions which include that at least 1 per cent of connected applied load of power shall be met from renewable energy sources, the statement said.
Regular energy audit will take place by Bureau of Energy Efficiency certified auditors and one tree shall be planted for every 100 sq m of land area.
Rain water harvesting
Apart from this, states must design rain water harvesting plan providing one recharge bore for every 3,000 sq m of land area, and sewage treatment plant shall be installed to ensure treatment of all solid waste generated.
“Possession of buildings will be handed over only after drainage and water connections are in place and No Objection Certification obtained from the competent authority,” the statement said.
