The retailers’ association Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti has called for a down-the-shutter strike on December 3 to press its set of demands, including restrictions on online retailing. The Samiti had earlier presented a nine-point charter of demands to the government. The demands included an end to `unlawful’ searches at shops and business establishments by tax officials; curbs on e-tailers and imposition of the same taxes on online retail products as those sold by physical shops; and compensation and rehabilitation packages to shopkeepers whose shops are acquired for road widening.
