Hrudaya Kaleyam, or the Heart of Liver, is hitting 260 screens, in the United States on April 4. It is perhaps for the first time that a small film being released in so many theatres. What’s more, it is taking on Ram Gopal Varma’s Rowdy, a big budget film with big star cast, including veteran actors Mohan Babu and Jayasudha.
Ever since the makers of the film announced the project nine months ago, this project has become popular on social media. Sampoornesh Babu, an unlikely hero, evoked hearty laughter among thousands of netizens.
It looks like a spoof on the mainstream film industry as Sampu wields a blood-dripped axe. Vexed with violence ridden films that glorified Rayalaseema warlords, the netizens have welcomed the new actor with cheers.
N Sai Rajesh, who debuts as a director, however, protests. “No, it is not a spoof. It depicts an attempt by a set of people for whom the art of film making is completely new. In fact, it is all about the immature art, how the hero stumbles,” he says.
A Tollywood industry source say the film closed a business of Rs 2 crore. “A big sum it is, considering the size of the film and its star cast. Forget about doing business, getting so many theatres in itself is a big success,” the source points out.
Sai Rajesh, however, refuses to talk on the business figures. “We have just begun work on our next venture Kobbari Matta. Sampoornesh is donning three roles,” he adds.
