In one more pro-active steps to push innovation, the IIIT-Hyderabad has launched a Products Lab. It will be part of the Indian Institute of Information Technology's Technology Transfer Office (TTO). Products Lab will work on creating market prototypes of research work from its labs and research centres.

According to a press release, the lab will also connect relevant research with the market needs and gaps as well as assist in building products out of this research. The IIIT-Hyderabad already houses the well known T-Hub, which is driving a start-up movement.

One of the important tasks of the lab will be to identify potential products based on market and strategy analysis, identify suitable research and then build the prototypes of these products along with associated businesses and market plans. The products will then be either licensed to larger enterprises or hover off as start-ups leveraging Entrepreneurs In Residence (EIR).

According to Vasudeva Varma, Dean of R&D, IIIT-Hyderabad, “Product Lab will be working on IIIT-Hyderabad’s commercially viable matured technologies. We hope this will help bridge the Lab-to-Land chasm and the adaptability of our research can make a significant contribution to society at large.”
