Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) has started a web portal.
“Swaasthaindia.com” to link doctors and the governments both at the Centre and state to join hands to support Indian healthcare.
“Some 10,000 doctors in UK close to retirement want to come back and lend their support for social causes in India mainly in rural areas,” a senior GAPIO member and president British Association of Physicians of Indian origin, Ramesh Mehta said here today.
The brain behind GAPIO, overseas Apollo Hospitals Group chairman Dr Prathap C Reddy, who was here for the fourth edition of annual conference said its focus was on the theme ’The Non Communicable Diseases Epidemic — Meeting the Challenges’
Reddy said the event aimed to deliberate on measures which could be taken with the help of Indian doctors working in India and overseas for better health care delivery across the globe.
Reddy said GAPIO had embarked on India’s first truly integrated comprehensive health scheme called ‘Total Health’ which was launched on October 27, 2013, at Aragonda village of Thavanampalle Mandal in Chittoor district.
“We want to replicate the model after learning from here,” he said.
