Actors seem to be taking the lead in acquiring futsal teams, adding to the glitz quotient of the T20 version of football.

The second season of Premier Futsal, which begins on September 15, has seen the likes of Sunny Leone, Tiger Shroff, Arya and Rana Daggubati co-owning teams and becoming their brand ambassadors as well.

Bollywood actor Leone is the brand ambassador and co-owner of Kochi-based franchisee Kerala Cobras, while Baahubali superstar Daggubati has come on board as the co-owner and brand ambassador of Telugu Tigers. Tamil actor Arya is the co-owner and brand ambassador of St Angelo’s VNCT Chennai Singhams while Bollywood actor Shroff is that of Krystal Mumbai. A total of six teams will play in the second season of Premier Futsal.

“Football is undoubtedly the most popular sport of Kerala and it gives me immense pleasure to be part of Premier Futsal,” Leone said in a statement. Shroff said: “Premier Futsal is an exceptional platform where the world’s biggest football superstars play in an indoor 5 vs 5 format with local and amateur talents. This season the matches of Premier Futsal are happening in my city and I’m very excited.”

“With (football star) Deco as a marquee player in the team, the Telugu Tigers will rock this year,” said Daggubati.

Vimala Britto, Vice-Chairperson, Premier Futsal, said: “With a mission to grow the sport in India, Premier Futsal is dedicated to engage with today’s youth by encouraging their participation in the sport by enabling them with the right direction and guidance.”

“Premier Futsal is an exceptional platform that aims to promote and increase the awareness of futsal by investing in talent hunts, community building and infrastructure development, all culminating in the three-week tournament celebrating the best talent in the world,” said Arya.

Season 1 of Premier Futsal was broadcast in the UK, West Asia, Europe, South America and South-East Asia, apart from India.
