French ophthalmic lens major Essilor has appointed former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly as the brand ambassador for its Varilux brand of plastic progressive lenses. The endorsement contract for the Indian market is for three years.
Ganguly told BusinessLine that he was convinced with the quality of the lenses he was endorsing. He hoped the Essilor progressive lenses would help forty plus people to "stay focused" and be lighter on the face. "I actually lent me a better look," Ganguly added.
Essilor India Pvt Ltd CEO Shivkumar J said that Indian market proved to be one of the fastest growth markets for the company. He claimed that plastic lenses were replacing the 'brittle' glass lenses in India and currently dominate with 65 per cent market share.
To penetrate the local market, the company has created a range of progressive and non-progressive lenses with a wide price bandwidth.
