The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has amended its constitution to align itself in accordance with the Government’s Sports Code by fixing the age and tenure limitation of its office bearers.

At its annual general meeting yesterday, BAI amended its constitution to fall in line with the Sports Code.

It has decided to fix the age limit of its office bearers at 70.

The tenure of the BAI President has also been fixed at a maximum of three terms, with or without break, of four years each, while the Secretary-General and Treasurer can hold their respective positions for a maximum of two terms, with or without a break, of four years each.

In another amendment, it has been decided to allow only a member of an executive committee to contest elections to the post of President and Secretary-General and no one from outside can stand for election to these positions.

The Sports Ministry had earlier asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and all the National Sports Federations (NSFs) to amend their respective constitutions ahead of the meeting with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to be held on May 15, to bring India back into the Olympic movement.
