Days before the union budget on July 10, cricket administrator N Srinivasan met finance minister Arun Jaitley in North Block on a seemingly hectic Sunday afternoon and later called his visit a “courtesy call” after being appointed the first ICC chairman last month.

It was Srinivasan’s second meeting with Jaitley, a former BCCI vice-president, after the two had met here early last month. The meeting today lasted for around 40 minutes and the Tamil Nadu strongman said nothing specific was discussed.

“Nothing specific was discussed. I just called on him after becoming the ICC chairman,” Srinivasan told PTI on his way out of the North Block.

He was accompanied by BCCI vice-president from North Zone, Sneh Bansal, who is considered close to Jaitley, and BCCI media-committee vice-chairman Ravi Jain.

“Mr. Jaitley was very happy with Srinivasan’s appointment as ICC chairman and the both of them decided to meet each other after the budget for further discussion on cricketing matters,” said Bansal.

Srinivasan has managed to become the ICC chairman even after the Supreme Court asked him to step down as BCCI boss pending probe into alleged corruption in the Indian Premier League.
