Even as the stage is set for another edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the curtain is set to rise on the second edition of the IPL Fantasy League. The latter is the digital IPL that made a debut last year, and had over 500,000 players across the globe participating during IPL 2013.

“When we approached IPL last year, we were confident about the appeal of a fantasy league, as well as how it would help grow the craze of IPL beyond the traditional boundaries,” said Ramesh Srivats, Founder, TenTenTen Digital Products.

The company created and manages the IPL fantasy league, even as it builds digital properties for companies that look to exponentially increase a brand’s engagement with its audience.

How it works

The fantasy league allows a player to own and create a team with a name, emblem and a motto. Each player is then given 10 million fantasy dollars, and can pick a virtual squad of 11 players with the amount. Players then earn points based on their squad’s actual performance in IPL matches. The team with the most points wins the league.

With half a million participants, the league ended up becoming the largest fantasy cricket league, said Srivats, adding that this year, new features have been added to fuel the awareness and engagement for IPL. “We expect a million players to play the league this time, taking the IPL fever to the next level globally,”' he added.

While the fantasy league site saw nearly 15 million visits and over 100 million page views in a space of two months last year, it also created tremendous involvement and social buzz with lakhs of tweets and Facebook updates. Encouraged by the success, the fantasy league was extended to the Champions League T20 2013, with TenTenTen handling all the responsibilities for the same. For TenTenTen Digital Products, the company that created the digital game, the sports offering comes close on the heels of similar campaigns for other corporates.
