“We will do everything we can to make football a super alternative to Chennai’s first love – Cricket,” said former Italy defender Marco Materazzi who is now player-manager of the city’s football club in the Hero Indian Super League Chennaiyin FC. Materazzi was here to launch the team’s official logo, Duradrishti (a representation of preserving positivity) in a brief event. Designed by Ogilvy & Mather, the logo is a symbol commonly used in homes in Tamil Nadu to deflect the negatives and keep up the positive environment.

Unveiling the logo, the club’s co-owner Vita Dani said not just the ensuing league, but there will be on-going activity in the city and the team will extend its support to football here. “We at Chennaiyin FC are committed to promote the beautiful game across the State.” Former Manchester City midfielder Elano and former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre have also been signed for the Chennai franchise in the inaugural Indian Super League. The league will run from October 12 to December 20, 2014.
