Sachin Tendulkar led an estimated one crore and more sports people likely into sporting history by participating in the Run Kerala Run event held this morning across Kerala.
The mass event is being held to herald the 35th National Games, the second time the sports-loving state is hosting the event. Tendulkar is the Games brand ambassador.
Earlier, Governor P Sathasivam flagged off the event in front of the Secretariat, with the VIP participants including Tendulkar and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, cocooned within an elaborate security ring that jostled with the surging crowds.
This hardly gave room for Tendulkar and the rest of the VIPs even to loosen up limbs and set themselves on a planned slow cruise along the assigned short stretch in front of the Secretariat.
They ended up walking the short distance for the most part, watched keenly by tens of hundreds of adoring fans who trained their mobile phones to get a glimpse of the cricket legend who co-owns the Kerala Blasters football team.
