As Indian athletes gear up for the upcoming Asian Games at Incheon, South Korean consumer electronics major Samsung has said it will to continue to provide assistance to the country’s athletes.

The company, which is supporting 12 Indian athletes for the Asiad in South Korea to be held from September 19 to October 4, said it would continue to support to help in growing for the sports culture in India.

“We are committed to promoting sports in India and will continue to support Indian athletes,” Samsung India Vice President and spokesperson Rajiv Mishra told PTI.

The company has instituted programmes, scholarships, awards to encourage budding sports stars in India.

“It is an ongoing initiative through which Samsung supports top ranking athletes across individual sports disciplines with their training expenses as they prepare for the Asian or the Olympic Games,” he added.

India’s medal hopes at the upcoming Asiad to be held between are in disciplines such as shooting, wrestling, boxing, badminton and archery.

The players supported by the company are Manavjit Sandhu, Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Malaika Goel, Yogeshwar Dutt, Vinesh Phogat, Babita Kumari, Devendro Singh, Mary Kom, P V Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap and Deepika Kumari.
