Leading television network Multi-Screen Media, which has announced the launch of Sony Kix, a new sports channel recently, is all geared up to entertain sports lovers offering Indian Premier League matches with Telugu and Tamil commentary.

This will add to the telecast range currently offered in English, Hindi and Bengali.

As part of the line-up, Kix will air Pepsi IPL, and other mega sporting events. Significantly, Sony is keen to expand and tap the market with Telugu and Tamil commentary. It plans to provide a facility where over 10,000 people can watch a match at one go at places like Warangal in Telangana and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, according to Prasana Krishnan, Business Head, Sony Six and Sony Kix.

Addressing a press conference, Krishnan said, “Sony Kix will not only be an extension of our sports portfolio but also serves as an opportunity for us to expand the sports viewership in the country. We have already acquired and have a very strong portfolio of rights including to some of the major sports hitherto unseen in Indian television.”

Krishnan said that the IPL season could generate advertisement revenue of about Rs 950 crore, reflecting a growth of over 18-20 per cent.

For Telugu commentary, Sony has roped on cricketers N Venugopala Rao, Venkatapathy Raju, MSK Prasad among others.
