Sports ministry has decided to construct synthetic turfs for football, hockey and athletics and multipurpose indoor halls across the country under Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS).

“Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is implementing Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS) to develop sports infrastructure in the country,” the Ministry said in a release.

“Under this scheme, sanction is accorded for laying of synthetic playing surface (for football, hockey and athletics) and for construction of Multipurpose indoor hall.”

The Ministry has decided to come up with a number of projects across the country such as Goa, Jammu and Kashmir and Kerela.

“The Ministry has approved the following projects under this scheme: Construction of Multi-purpose Indoor Hall at Sports Complex, Chaudi, Canacona South, Goa at an estimated cost of Rs.6.25 crore subject to the ceiling of Rs. 6 crore.

“Construction of Multi-purpose indoor hall at Leh, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.98 crore subject to the ceiling of Rs 6 crore.

“Synthetic Athletic track at University of Calicut, Malapuram, Kerala at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.2 crore subject to the ceiling of Rs. 5.50 crore,” the statement added.

Under this scheme, the Ministry has also approved a number of projects in Mizoram.

“Construction of Multi-purpose Indoor Hall at Sazaikawn, Lunglei District, Mizoram at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.

“Laying of synthetic football turf at Chhangphut Playground at Champhai, Mizoram at an estimated cost of Rs 4.9685 crore subject to the ceiling of Rs 4.50 crore.

“Laying of synthetic football turf at CYLA Ground at Lawngtlai, Mizoram at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.931 crore subject to the ceiling of Rs. 4.50 crore,” the Ministry said while approving the projects.

Besides these projects, there is also a plan to construct a sporting facility in Uttarakhand.

“Construction of Multi-purpose indoor hall at Sports Stadium, Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.45 crore subject to the ceiling of Rs 6 crore,” the statement said.
