Tata Sons and Tata Motors have announced their support to Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first F1 driver, for his maiden participation in the Japanese championship Super Formula 2014. The series comprising eight rounds, seven in Japan and one in South Korea, is to begin on April 13 and end on November 9.

Super Formula, earlier known as Formula Nippon, has been running since 1973, with its driver roster including Michael Schumacher, Eddie Irvine, Pedro De La Rosa and Ralf Schumacher.

The Tata group has been supporting Narain Karthikeyan since 2002. In the 2014 Super Formula season, Narain Karthikeyan would be driving for Team Impul Hoshino Racing, competing with some of the fastest drivers from across the world.

Mukund Rajan, Brand Custodian, Tata Sons said, “The Tata group has been supporting Narain for the past twelve years and were in fact the principal sponsors of his debut foray in F1. We are excited to sponsor his maiden participation in the 2014 Super Formula season.”

Driving for Team Impul Hoshino Racing, which finished third in the Super Formula title standings last year and is led by Kazuyoshi Hoshino, the original fastest man in Japan, Karthikeyan is the only Indian participating in the Super Formula 2014 series. Last year, Karthikeyan participated in the Auto GP World series, where he was a title contender.
