The State government has dismissed reports that the Attapady Hills Area Development Society (Ahads) has been disbanded. In fact, the government is committed to providing continued support to the society, the minister for rural development, Mr K.C. Joseph, said here.

The Japanese-aided programme for development of the tribal belt there, Ahads would have normally completed its term in March, 2010. Still, the government had extended service of its employees on five occasions ever since.

Ahads has also submitted proposals for development of Wayanad district and tribal development programme in Palakkad district with further Japanese aid.

Since the latter project has already been approved, a skeleton staff of 12 persons will continue to work, the minister said.
