Chicken dishes are likely to be dropped from menus of hotels and restaurants in Kerala from Thursday onwards with their owners deciding to stop serving in view of the steep rise in the price of the poultry bird.

The price of chicken, supplied by Tamil Nadu, had ranged from Rs 105 to Rs 120 per kg a few weeks ago but now touches about Rs 170 a kg which is uneconomical for them, Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association said.

With demand for some other meat products falling, chicken prices had seen a steep hike, a release from the association said here yesterday.

This uncontrolled price rise will only ensure that chicken products are not served in hotels and restaurants in the state, it said.
