T-Hub, in association with Rural Electrification Corporation, has launched ‘REC Innovation Platform’ to encourage innovation in the renewable energy sector.
The platform was launched in the presence of KT Rama Rao, Telangana IT Minister, and PV Ramesh, Chairman and MD, REC Ltd., through its REC Foundation initiative.
Training to students
It aims to extend support and mentorship to 30 government institutions. About 1,800 students from select institutions will go through the rigorous Conceptual Research Experience Programme in the renewable energy sector, ranging from solar and wind energy to geothermal energy and alternate bio-fuels and climate-change issues.
Jay Krishnan, CEO of T-Hub, said, “The platform will help 1,800 young innovators to produce 600 projects focussed on renewable energy. Out of these, 30 projects will be selected for advanced mentoring. Finally, top three projects will be selected for further mentoring at T-Hub.”

KT Rama Rao said T-Hub had made big strides in a very short time and one of the companies, Banyan Nation, incubated by it has won an award at the world Economic Forum in the circular economy category.
The Minister said he had held discussions with top officials of Carlsberg, who were interested in working towards bringing down the water consumption while making beer. It is possible that T-Hub could work on their project, he said.

Referring to the Economic Survey and announcements made by the Centre today, the Minister said it was a proud achievement for the State as it has been ranked among top five States in the country.
Referring to big strides Telangana has made, Rao said that the State has the highest solar power installations in the country and would continue to lay special thrust on the renewable energy sector, including wind and other forms of energy.
The REC CMD said, “REC was open open to funding projects and good ideas in the renewable energy sector. We expect such an initiative to transform the renewable energy sector with some innovative ideas.”
