The second phase of Tata Medical Centre’s oncology care hospital here is likely to be operational by mid-2017, its Director Mamen Chandy said here on Wednesday.
The Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata, is located in the satellite township of Rajarhat on the northern fringes of the city.
The second phase, estimated to cost ₹200 crore, will have 250 beds. It will also add three more linear accelerators (required for cancer treatment) and additional imaging facilities. There will also be a separate floor exclusively for children.
The first phase of the hospital, which has been operational since 2011, was built at a cost of ₹540 crore and has 183 beds and two linear accelerators.
Close to half of the beds in the ₹350-crore not-for-profit facility providing comprehensive cancer treatment and care in Kolkata is reserved for the underprivileged.
“Nearly ₹100 crore for constructing the second phase has already been raised. The remaining will be raised through various fundraising activities,” Chandy said on the sidelines of a fundraiser activity in the city.
A special cricket-themed fundraiser event called “Dada’r Shongey Dil Se Deejiye”, supported by cricketer Saurav Ganguly, is also being organised in the city on April 8.
