The new state of Telangana to be formed on June 2 will face immediate power shortage to the tune of 3,000 MW.
According to a vision document released by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Fappci) here on Wednesday, the power shortage could scale up to 11,000 MW with increase in demand.
"As most of the power plants are located in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh, the state needs to take immediate steps to fill the gap between demand and supply,'' Fapcci President A Srinivas told newspersons at a press conference here.
The state would have to depend on lift irrigation which requires huge power. It would need to set up thermal power plants at Adilabad, Karimnagar and Khammam districts, he added.
At least, three domestic airports should be developed in Warangal, Nizamabad and Khammam, besides the development of railway networks and road projects.
"The development of massive infrastructure requires huge investments. In view of revenue deficit, projects should be taken up in public private participation mode,'' Srinivas said.
