First-time passport applicants can receive their passports in three days under normal category by furnishing Aadhaar card along with two other identity proof for verification.

Addressing the media, K Balamurugan, Regional Passport Officer, said that with 96 crore people having Aadhaar cards, the new procedure will enable faster issue of passport without incurring additional fee. The new procedure can be availed at ₹1,500, as opposed to ₹3,500 for tatkal passport.

Five-day window For the new procedure, the applicants have to provide voter’s ID and Permanent Account Number (PAN) along with an affidavit in the form of Annexure – I available at passport India portal.

The applicants are also given a window of five days for scheduling an appointment with passport seva kendra from the current one day.

To further reduce the time taken for police verification, the Ministry of External Affairs will deploy mPassport Police App for speedy submission of the verification report.
