Gujarat, easily the ice cream and diabetes capital of India, never ceases to innovate in offering this cold comfort: this year, a local ice cream maker has come out with a ‘ modak ’ ice cream, keeping in view Lord Ganesh’s love for laddus !

Top ice cream brands—Amul, Vadilal and Havmor—already offer dozens of varieties and flavors of ice cream. Recently, a local maker launched even a ‘tava’ ice cream, made like a mini-dosa on a ‘freezing’ pan!

With the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi Festival commencing on Monday, Havmor, on Tuesday, announced the launch of a new flavor: modak ice cream.

There is a catch, however: “This unique offering is exclusively available in all Havmor outlets across Mumbai & Pune,” said Ankit Chona, Managing Director, Havmor Ice Cream, here. Clearly, although launched by a Gujarati brand, it is not currently available in Gujarat!

Keeping in mind the consumption of modaks in every house and considering the health conscious minds, Havmor introduced this flavour with low-fat content, maintaining the sugar level in its ingredients, he said. “It is a pure milk ice cream with the churns of dried coconut shreds, almonds and pistachio nuts to add the real taste of modak.”

“We thought of launching this flavor in Mumbai and Pune which are the biggest markets for us. “

The new variant ice cream is available in the form of modak, starting from ₹ 50 per unit.
