BJP leader Vasundhara Raje Scindia on Friday said that girls should be educated, sensitised and made self-reliant. This would help address the issue of atrocities against women.

Speaking at an interactive session on empowering women, organised by the FICCI Ladies Organisation, she said that the plight of “Nirbhaya” — the Delhi gang rape victim — instilled fear amongst most women.

“One of the things women are worried about was the maltreatment meted out to her. Our thinking has to change, only then will the country change,” she said.

The Government should be more sensitive towards girls and ensure that proper rules and regulations are put in place. “They (girls) should be given the kind of skill set to help them stand on their own feet,” she said.

Blaming the Government for such mishaps, she said, “When the Government stops governing then this is what happens. Things become loose and tend to go out of control.”
