West Bengal Finance and Commerce & Industry Minister, Amit Mitra, on Friday offered land to the Indian Plastics Federation (IPF) for setting up an integrated, high-end polymer park.

The park, he said, will also have manufacturing units.

“Land is available with us with the various industrial parks. I’m offering land to the Indian Plastics Federation in any of these government-owned parks. You can give a concrete proposal for setting up an integrated polymer park,” the Minister said during the inauguration of the Indplas ‘15, an international exhibition on plastics.

The Indian Plastics Federation already has a polymer park at Sankrail, Howrah, on the western fringes of the city. It occupies some 50 acres of land and houses 42 units.

The federation is also developing a second facility, a few kilometres away from the old one. The proposed facility will come up on another 50 acre plot and at an expected investment of ₹500 crore.

Eco-friendly processes Mitra, meanwhile, urged the Indian Plastics Federation to opt for environment friendly processes. Concern for the environment should feature on the list of to-dos for the Federation too.

Pointing that only a handful of people were failing to adhere to norms, Mitra claimed that these handfuls were giving a “bad name” to the entire industry.

He urged the industry to ensure that laws are not flouted and those not adhering task be identified and corrective measures be taken.
