The Wadia Group today filed a police complaint claiming that they received a threatening “message” over phone from fugitive underworld don Ravi Pujari.
A secretary to industrialist Nusli Wadia, approached NM Joshi Marg police station yesterday saying a “threat” message was received on a mobile phone from somebody who claimed he was fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari, Deputy Police Commissioner Mahesh Patil said.
The Secretary’s name has been withheld. Patil, however, did not clarify if the phone belonged to the secretary or one of the members of Wadia family.
The complaint has now been transferred to the crime branch, which usually probes cases related to the underworld.
The Wadia family is in the spotlight over the last few days after Nusli’s elder son Ness Wadia was accused by his former girlfriend and actress Priety Zinta of abuse and molestation during an IPL cricket match on May 30. Ness has denied the charge.
Ness and Priety had broken off their courtship a few years back but continued to share business interest and co-owned IPL team Kings XI Punjab.
Though the police did not confirm the threat had anything to do with the Ness-Preity episode, some TV channels claimed the gangster asked the Wadia family not to “harass” the actress and warned of “dire consequences” if it did not stop.
No spokesman for the Wadia group could be immediately contacted for comments.
