A total of 12 foreign-aided drinking water supply projects in rural areas are underway in the country, of which nine are funded by the World Bank and three by JICA, the government informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The World Bank has given $165 million for Jalaswarjya –II in Maharashtra (2015-2020), Rs 318.6 crore for Telangana (2010-2016), Rs 334.33 crore for Andhra Pradesh (2010-16), Rs 1,540 crore for Punjab (2015-2021), $500 million for Assam (2014-2020), $500 million each for Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh ( 2014-2020) and $241.2 million for the Jalnidhi scheme in Kerala (2012-17).

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has given Rs 2,212 crore for Rajasthan (2013-2020), Rs 1,173.1 crore for West Bengal (2014-2019) and Rs 1,585.60 crore for Tamil Nadu (up to July 2017.

Giving this information in a written reply, R C Jigajinagi, Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation, also informed the House that no funds have been released to any State as yet under World Bank support for the Rs 9,000 crore project (January 2016- January 2021) for the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) approved by the Union Cabinet in March this year.

“The project basically provides for incentivising States on the basis of their performance…to be gauged through an independent survey-based measurement of certain performance indicators, called the Disbursement-Linked Indicators,” he said.
