The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants is offering an accounting course to the students of Stella Maris College in Chennai. It comes at a tuition fee of Rs 3 lakh and will introduce the International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS) to the students. They will receive a B.Sc degree in Applied Accountancy from Oxford Brookes University in the UK, with which the UK-headquartered accountants body has a tie-up.

Auditing firm KPMG has expressed interest to be the learning partner for this course.

Jasintha Quadras, Principal, Stella Maris College, says: “This additional qualification will give them a significant advantage in the competitive field of finance.”

ACCA had entered into a similar association with Christ University in Bangalore since last year. It is also in talks with Loyola College in Chennai and Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi. There are over 5,000 corporate employees in India who are currently pursuing ACCA’s diploma course in IFRS.

“By learning the new accounting standards at college, the students will have better visibility as prospective employees by the time they graduate,” says Illham Punjani, Business Relations Manager, ACCA. — Our Bureau
