As the media unravels all the tricks and treats the Finance Minister has for us this Budget Day, let’s take a moment to remember that the time for toting up taxes and preparing returns is also upon us. The women in the picture remind us of our duties at this time of the year -- pay them taxes, friends, don’t try to get around them.
While some of us burrow and dig to find finer and finer loopholes to save the rupees, there are actually places in the world where people take pride in paying their taxes. As, for instance, in Sweden, where, it seems, most people look upon paying taxes as a right in order to make the practical arms of their society work smoothly.
