The proposed Indian Institute of Information Technology in West Bengal will be housed within the campus area of the JIS College of Engineering, a private engineering college, at Kalyani near here.

Taranjit Singh, MD of JIS group, told Business Line that a partly complete building at JIS’ Kalyani campus has been provided to house the upcoming IIIT in the initial years. “It is part of a broader collaboration. A faculty exchange programme between the JIS College and IIIT is also on the anvil,” Singh said.

IIIT, which is being set up as a public-private partnership by the Centre, the State, Coal India, JSW Steel and Rolta Foundation, will have the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology as its mentor academy. The IIIT is expected to start its BTech and MTech programmes shortly.
