The students at SIBM, Bangalore, recently found themselves immersed in a cauldron of technology, entertainment and design. No, it wasn’t their cultural festival but the coveted TEDx event with the theme ‘The road less travelled’ that the B-school organised recently. With speakers drawn from varied fields of life, the event’s mission was to inspire minds and seek deep discussions among people at large.

Some of the speakers at the event include the famous singer Lucky Ali, who took the students through the journey of his life, ending the presentation with one of his famous songs, of course. The debutant director of the film Gulaab Gang, Soumik Sen, a speaker at the event, spoke about the need to get out of our ‘security zone’ and search for happiness.

Armstrong Pame, the first IAS officer from the Zeme tribe of Nagaland, attended the event. Also known as the Miracle Man by his local community, Pame has dedicated himself to be a change agent, said, “If I can be a solution to the smallest of problems, I want to be. Give the best, do what you want and dream big.”

Kate Hallam, the former Miss England, started with the inspiring story of her brother who overcame cancer, and is nowliving a healthy life. And playback singer Mahalakshmi Iyer, asked the students to believe in themselves, and keep practising as practice gives the confidence to perform better. Pushpa Basnet, the only foreigner to receive the South Korea ELGA youth award; Danish Aslam, director of the movie Break Ke Baad ; Alicia Souza, Founder of Chumbak; and Satish Acharya, a cartoonist, were also present at TEDx and shared their experience with students.

Inspired by TED, a non-profit organisation devoted to ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
