Uniform drug pricing system under study

The Centre is likely to introduce a uniform system of selling formulations both in and out of price control by modifying the existing Drug (Price Control) Order, 1995. This is being considered following representations from chemists and retailers. According to them, a separate system for selling formulations under control and another one for the drugs outside it, makes prices vary from State to State depending on the local taxes charged. Serious discussion on this move was initiated following the day-long token strike by chemists all over the country demanding a uniform selling system for formulations.

IBRD orders review of projects in India

The World Bank has ordered an extensive review of its projects in India to improve their implementation and utility, says its President, Mr. James D Wolfensohn. Addressing media before the Bank-IMF annual spring meetings, he said the Bank had a large programme in India and one of its major areas of concern was the country’s power sector. Obviously, he was not satisfied with the working of the State electricity boards which had come to be seen as the major obstacle in the way of foreign investment in infrastructure. Mr. Wolfensohn said these boards came under the jurisdiction of State Governments.

Intel campaign for new processor

Intel India is all set to kick off its most extensive consumer marketing campaign in India to promote the new Pentium processor with MMX technology. The new Intel chip being launched in the country is the first processor which incorporates Intel’s MMX technology. This according to Intel officials is the most significant enhancement in the Intel architecture in the last ten years.
