Exasperation on Madison Avenue

Burger King put its juicy $100 million plus advertising account into review almost a month ago, but some ad agencies don’t seem very hungry. Several shops that would normally chase such a high-profile, deep-pocketed client... have decided not to enter the Burger King review... ad agencies say some accounts are so difficult to work with that they simply cannot service them. Some Madison Avenue executives call them the clients from hell.

Yamuna Action Plan approved

The Centre has accorded its approval for undertaking the Rs 154-crore Yamuna Action Plan in Haryana to cleanse the Yamuna waters on the pattern of the Ganga Action Pla... work on this centrally-sponsored project would begin soon in six towns of Haryana by providing sewage treatment facilities in them. Seventy per cent of the project cost would be met by a loan from the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund (OECF) of Japan for which a bilateral assistance had already been finalised by the Centre.

A coffee-break or war brewing

With the introduction of the partial free-market system, the coffee war in the Indian marketplace appears to be hotting up. Taking on Brooke Bond and Narasu’s will be none less than the mighty Tatas. Tata Tea, which took over Consolidated Coffee, the largest corporate coffee grower in the country, has recently launched Coorg coffee, a branded pure (filter) coffee in powder form in polypacks.

Says Mr Darbari Seth, Chairman, Tata Tea, “Our emphasis will be on weaning the Indian consumer away from chicory blended coffee. Even if it means poor business in the short-run, we would like to go ahead.”
