This is with reference to ‘Financial inclusion — not by banks alone’ ( Business Line , November 9).

Making bill payments through electronic mode such as Internet and mobile phones is a welcome step towards promoting financial inclusion.

There has been a huge increase in the use of mobile phones, both by the urban and rural people.

But credit worthiness of a borrower can’t be judged merely by perusing the bill payment details through mobile phone. Anyhow, institutions can use mobile phones and other electronic modes tools for developing financial inclusion.

Oil exploration

The editorial “Oil slick” ( Business Line , November 10) is an eye-opener on the intricacies in the field of oil exploration, extraction, et al . Oilfield exploration abounds in ‘grey areas’ and cannot be seen as an apple-to-apple comparison with other industries. Complexities and unpredictable factors need to be factored in.

In the present issue of Reliance versus CAG, we need to understand that as a government body, the CAG has all the powers to inspect the books and records of Reliance to ascertain whether costs booked are genuine and if ‘accrual’ concept has been factored in.

Even prior to awarding the rights, CAG is fully empowered to examine the methodology in the government allocating the contract.

Transparency should be the watchword to infuse confidence into global companies to participate in this business.
