This is with reference to the article “Good for entertainment, bad for ads?” ( Business Line , July 15). The innuendo and double meaning in the ad lines these days can no longer be tolerated. Obscenity in film songs too should be dealt with firmly.

Advertisement makes a direct sales appeal and it is more demanding and obsessive in nature. The harm that can be caused to the gullible minds is far more outreaching than that of the films.

Time has come to have a stringent surveillance system over both films and advertisement.

Tighten security

This is with reference to “Terror strikes Mumbai again; 17 dead, 100 injured in 3 blasts” ( Business Line , July 14).People of Mumbai people have woken up from the terror that shook the city. There are several questions that the Government has to answer. Has the financial capital become a soft target — who could be responsible? Has anything changed since 26/11 and how insensitive can we be?

The Home Minister has ordered a full-scale investigation to “hunt down the folks who committed this act”. It is perpetrated by fanatics who are utterly indifferent to the sanctity of human life, and the democracies of this world have to come together and fight.

It is time authorities ramp up security, not just in Mumbai but across Indian cities. The focus should be on how to curb radicalisation of youth from the minority community. Efforts should be made to adopt homeland security initiatives like what the US did after the 9/11.

Emphasis on community policing is the need of the hour.
