Tata-Fiat venture to make Grande Punto, Linea in India The Government issues a formal approval letter to Reliance Industries Ltd on the pricing formula for the gas to be produced by the company from its Eastern offshore fields. Maruti Suzuki India along with its parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, forms a joint venture agreement with the €4.5-billion company Magneti Marelli, a subsidiary of the Fiat group to produce electronic control units for diesel engines. Oct. 12: ACC hikes stake in Shiva Cement to 14.7% A Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court sets aside the order of the trial court which appointed four administrators over the estate of M.P. Birla. Oct. 13: Four executives of POSCO-India taken hostage by villagers opposing the company’s 12-million-tonne-per-annum capacity steel project near Tandakul village in Orissa’s Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday. Oct. 15: The Bombay High Court rules that the family settlement within the Ambani family and the subsequent restructuring of Reliance Industries sanctioned by the court are binding on the respective group companies. Oct. 16: Bajaj Auto offers VRS to Waluj workers Bharati Shipyard Ltd signs up with Apeejay Shipping Ltd for a 50:50 joint venture for setting up a ship building yard along the eastern coast of the country. Oct. 25: The Company Law Board asks Mr Rahul Bajaj and Mr Shishir Bajaj to prepare a report on the areas of dispute which are holding up the mutually acceptable agreement for splitting the business. The Government approves steps for disinvestment in Tyre Corporation of India, under which it will allow the public-sector enterprise to form a joint venture with a private company. Oct. 26: The Andhra Pradesh-based Krishnapatnam UMPP receives request for qualifications from just three bidders — Sterlite, L&T and Reliance Power — out of the nine pre-qualified bidders. Essar Steel Holdings Ltd, part of Essar Global Ltd, says it has completed the acquisition of Minnesota Steel LLC, a US-based steel company with estimated reserves of over 1.4 billion tonnes of iron ore. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board announce the setting up of a joint venture company to put up a 1,600-MW thermal power plant at Udangudi, near Tuticorin, southern Tamil Nadu. Oct. 29: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd announces investment of $1.8 billion in a research and development facility in Haryana and major structural changes in the company. Ashok Leyland, Nissan sign pact to produce LCVs, power trains Oct. 31: The board of Reliance Energy approves a proposal to transfer its infrastructure projects to a separate subsidiary. Tata Steel signs a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam Steel Corporation for a proposed cold rolling mill complex in Vietnam.
