Markets Events 2007 Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Events in October 2007 Oct. 8: Sensex sees its biggest decline in over one-and-a-half months, dropping by 1.59 per cent or 282 points. Oct. 9: Sensex soars past the 18,000 level, en route to registering its highest ever intra-day gain of 1,040.60 points. Oct. 12: The Sensex dips by 395.03 points and closes at 18,419.04, down by 2.1 per cent. The Nifty is down by 1.75 per cent and closes at 5,428.25. Oct. 15: The Sensex gains 639 points or 3.47 per cent and closes at 19,058.67. Oct. 16: SEBI proposes restrictions on the issue of participatory notes by Foreign Institutional Investors, in an apparent bid to stem the unceasing inflows into the booming Indian stock market.
Oct .17: SEBI’s proposals of Tuesday curbing FII investments through participatory notes turn FIIs into net sellers overnight, plunging the markets in early trade to their circuit breaking thresholds, leading to temporary suspension of trading. Oct. 18: The Sensex loses 717 points. Oct. 19: Sensex dips by more than 800 points intra-day, later crawling back again to close at 17559.98, 2.44 per cent lower from Thursday. Oct. 22: SEBI says proprietary sub-accounts (through which FIIs handle P-notes) wishing to apply for FII status must send SEBI their letter of intent within 24 hours indicating their intent to convert. Oct 23: The benchmark index gains 878.85 points or 4.99 per cent to close at 18492.84. The S&P CNX Nifty advances by 5.6 per cent.
Suzlon Energy Ltd says it will split its shares and list its Belgium-based group company Hansen Transmissions International NV on the London Stock Exchange. Religare Enterprises Ltd enters the capital markets with an IPO of 75,76,102 equity shares of Rs 10 each for cash, at a price to be decided through a 100 per cent book-building process. The price band is fixed between Rs 160 and Rs 185 per equity share. Oct. 25: The Sensex gains 257 points and ended the day at 18,770. Oct. 26: The Sensex gains 472 points on FridayThe index closes at 19,243.17, gaining 2.52 per cent. Oct. 29: The Sensex has its first brush with the milestone of 20,000. It gains by 734.5 points or 3.82 per cent over Friday’s close, finishing the day at 19,977.67. Edelweiss Capital Ltd forays into the capital market with an IPO of 83,86,147 equity shares of Rs 5 each.
