Mar. 15: Barely a month after the Directorate-General of Foreign Trade issues a notification allowing arecanut to be imported only through the New Mangalore port, the first consignment of four containers of arecanut lands in Mangalore.

Mar. 16: The Centre declares an unprecedented Rs 100 per quintal bonus over and above the minimum support price of Rs 750 for the 2006-07 wheat crop to be marketed from Apr. 1.

Mar. 20: The Centre officially raises its estimate of sugar production for the ongoing 2006-07 season (Oct.-Sept.) to 238.34 lakh tonnes (lt), from the earlier level of 227.34 lt.

Mar. 21: For the first time, exports of spices cross Rs 3,000 crore during Apr. - Feb. 2006-07 and surpass the target both in volume and value set for the current fiscal.

Mar. 23: Small coffee growers having plantations up to a size of 10 hectares will now be able to avail themselves of weather (rainfall) insurance as a Risk Management Support from the Coffee Board.

Mar. 25: The Agriculture Insurance Corporation of India prices its weather-linked coffee risk cover product at 8 to 12 per cent of the sum assured.

Mar. 27: Andhra Sugars Ltd posts a net sales turnover of Rs 136.63 crore for the third quarter ended Dec. 31, 2006, marginally up from the Rs 117.93 crore it earned in the corresponding quarter of the previous year

Mar. 29: The Union Government on Thursday allowed the State-owned oil companies to charter ships directly for oil transportation instead of going through the Government’s ship chartering agency, Transchart.
