Oct. 1: Tata decides to unify all its tea brands under the name of Tata Tea.

Oct. 5: Moran Tea Company (India) Ltd becomes the subsidiary of McLeod Russel India Ltd.

Oct. 9: The Centre declares a minimum support price of Rs 1,000 per quintal for the 2007-08 wheat crop to be marketed from April.

Oct. 10: The five per cent blending of ethanol with petrol made mandatory across the country expect in J&K, the North East and Island Territories.

Oct. 14: Gold surged to a 28-year high of $753.60 an ounce.

Oct. 22: The northeast monsoon sets in over the coasts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining States.

Oct. 25: The Centre eases the blanket ban on export of all non-basmati rice. The Union Cabinet permits shipments of premium varieties that are priced above $425 a tonne free-on-board.

Oct. 31: Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh granted a major reprieve, with the Allahabad High Court permitting them to discharge 25 per cent of their outstanding cane arrears within 5-6 weeks time.
