For the Indian two-wheeler market, 2017 was already a much anticipated year, with big names bringing exciting new bikes that also promise to be affordable. The entry-level performance bike segment will especially see a lot of activity. While BMW has hogged all the headlines, with the much talked about G310R launching in the summer, there are other exciting wheels to look out for as well — such as the Suzuki GSX 250R (Gixxer) and the TVS Akula.

Not to be left behind, Yamaha has launched the FZ25 in the country, adding to its successful FZ series. The bike is powered by a 249cc, 4-stroke, 2-valve, single-cylinder engine that is air cooled. Yamaha claims that the mill is capable of churning out 20.9PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 20Nm at 6,000 rpm. The bike is said to return a fuel efficiency of 43 km per litre.

New engine technology

According to a press release from Yamaha, the engine is the company’s new generation development ideal — with the ‘Blue Core’ technology. The focus of this ideal is better combustion and cooling efficiency and reduced power loss, the company said.

Features boost

The FZ25 also gets a host of other features such as an LED headlight and an LCD instrument cluster. The bike also gets a 220 mm rear disc brake in addition to the 282 mm disc on the front wheel. The bike weighs 148 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres.

It will be available across Yamaha dealerships in the country beginning February in three colours — ‘Ballistic Blue’, ‘Warrior White’, and ‘Knight Black’. It costs about ₹1.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
