Adventure tourers and the interest around them seems like it is piquing. Royal Enfield brought it to the masses with its entry-level Himalayan, and there’s a buzz around the high-end Ducati Multistrada and Triumph Tiger. Now, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has announced the start of bookings for its CFR1000L Africa Twin, for the first 50 customers. The motorcycle is imported as a completely knocked down kit and has been assembled in India. The Africa Twin’s roots lie in the famous Dakar Rally, which the NXR650 won from 1986 to 1989.

The Africa Twin’s engine is mated to what Honda claims is the world’s first dual clutch transmission in motorcycles. This transmission allows riders to switch between manual and automatic gear shifting. The motorcycle also gets an off-road function, switchable rear ABS and Honda Selectable Torque Control.

The parallel twin cylinder engine churns out 87 bhp of power at 7,500 rpm and 92 Nm peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The Africa Twin gets inverted cartridge type fully adjustable front forks with a 230 mm stroke — the longest in its class according to Honda. It has a high ground clearance of 250 mm and sports dual LED headlamps. The front wheel gets twin floating 320 mm disc brakes, while the rear wheel gets a 256 mm disc.

Available in the Victory Red colour, only the top-end variant will be on offer in India, and it is priced at ₹12.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). A few lucky customers will also get to attend the grand out-door ‘True Adventure’ Africa Twin India launch event, Honda said.
