It’s turning out to be quite a busy time for those watching out for flagships, with Korean rivals Samsung and LG bringing their respective heavyweights — the S8 and the G6 — to the Indian market. Both phones were anticipated with bated breath, given how both of them came out right after setbacks for both LG and Samsung — the modular G5 and the exploding Note.

Both phones are tall, with the G6 sporting an aspect ratio of 18:9, giving you lots of screen space. It also comes with Dolby Vision, supposedly the only smartphone to do so. Not to be left behind, the S8 comes with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, with Samsung’s Infinity display. Both phones claim to offer a great viewing experience. However, the LG G6 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, which while being a tested performer, seems dated given how the G6 is a flagship. On the other hand, the S8 is powered by the newer Exynos 8895 octa-core processor. Both phones pack 4GB of RAM and come with 64GB ROM, expandable to 2TB in the G6 and 256GB in the S8.

The G6 has a dual rear camera — with 13MP wide angle and standard lenses and a 5MP front shooter. The S8 comes with a 12MP dual pixel rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera.

A lot is being said about the fragility of the S8 and how the back especially is prone to cracks. The G6 is being aggressively marketed as a tougher nut to crack, but not a lot can be said on this front at the moment, till the phones are put to extensive use. The G6 has a marginally larger battery, at 3,300mAh, compared to the S8’s 3,000mAh battery. Both support fast charging.

Price is where the G6 is at an advantage, costing ₹51,990, almost ₹6,000 less than the S8, which costs ₹57,900.

With Sony also in the mix, this will be an interesting battle to watch out for.
