Never before have there been so many options for wireless listening — and some of them are getting quite inexpensive. Meant for use while running or working out or otherwise for listening to music when the demand for quality is not too high, such headphones or earphones are becoming a great alternative for many people.

No sweat

Skullcandy, the Park City, Utah based company that markets various audio products has been in India for a while now with its ware readily available online. Recently I tried out a set of wireless earphones, Ink’d Wireless S2IKW-J509, that sit ever so lightly around the neck and extend with small cables to plug into the ears. Their weight is so negligible you could quite easily forget them being there. They neither cause sweat while you’re working out nor fall off. There is one problem though: if you reach your hand up anywhere around your ear, you can end up snagging the little cable and pulling the earphone our of your ear. For the overly fidgety, this could be a bit of a frequent problem and while you can quickly pop them back into the ear, the danger is that you might snap the thin cable.

Flexible build

The build of this set of earphones is essentially cheap and plastic, but not objectionably so. They don’t look bad and your problem will be more about not snapping those cables. Otherwise, the plastic collar is quite durable and even has some flexibility so that you can scrunch them up and store them anywhere, including in your pocket.

Both ends of the collar have a rectangular part with one being a dummy and the other holding the simple controls for power, pairing, volume, call pick-up and track change. You’ll also find an inlet for a micro-USB cable to go in for charging. The charge lasts about seven hours.

I’ve seen cheap in-ear headphones that aren’t worth a second listen, but these wireless Ink’d earphones don’t sound bad at all. If you aren’t looking for bass or anything with these super light headphones, you will find clarity and balance. Most certainly they’ll do the job for exercise sessions. For serious listening, look elsewhere, but then there are many situations when you listen to music causally.
