INFOSYS Technologies, which expects to touch the 50,000 mark soon in terms of employee headcount, has made 6,500 campus offers for 2006. These graduates are expected to join sometime in the second or third quarter of fiscal 2007.

Speaking to reporters , Mr T.V. Mohandas Pai, Chief Financial Officer, Infosys Technologies, said, "We will hire 3,400 more in Q4." As of December 2005, the number of Infoscions stood at 49,422.

The company's attrition rate has risen from last year's 10.3 per cent to 10.8 per cent this year. There has been a net addition of 3,226 this quarter.

Quoting a survey, Mr Pai said the fact that hiring in fiscal year 2007 will be lower than fiscal 2005 is "significant". The company was supposed to hire 20,000 by end of fiscal 2005-06, but expects to hire 21,200. Of these, we have already hired 17,800, he said.

On technical talent in China, Mr S.D. Shibulal, Head of worldwide sales, said the Chinese engineers lacked in-depth management skills. "Their domain knowledge is also behind. The lead time we have is much more than two years."
